Sled Island Adventure 2011!

Wow, what a week we had last week! Where to begin? Chris, Michael and I set off last Tuesday morning for Calgary- the three of us managed to Tetris ourselves into my Jetta along with all of Chris and Michael's drums, guitars and gear and were off and on our way! We made it to Calgary from Vancouver in one fell swoop...just in time to hop on our bicycles, meet Paddy for a few and got Shippy that night. Wednesday marked the official first day of Sled Island and Chris, Michael and Allie played that night at the Distillery as one of the opening bands for Blonde Redhead- so amazing. They crushed it and I was so proud!
I was moons-over-my-hammy excited to get to hang out with one of my very dearest friends that night as well, Aaron. I've known Aaron since the first day of Kindergarten and we got to share some laughs and drinks which made my year.
Thursday, Friday and most of Saturday are a blur of bicycles, bands, sunshine, hangouts, and way too much pub fare.

JACK!!!

All my life, I've joked about one day finding my Jack...to complete my Jack & Jill fairytale...Well...I've finally found him!! Now, he's no Prince Charming on a noble steed, that's for sure. He's a lot shorter and smellier than I'd anticipated... but he's loyal, obedient and well-mannered. I introduce to you, Jack the Pug. Our resident dog at Woven, he belongs to Shanah, but has stolen all of our hearts. Bad breath aside, he's the best Jack I could ever ask for!

HAPPY 60th BIRTHDAY MAMA!

Today my beautiful mom turned 60 years old. Words cannot begin to explain the profound love and appreciation I have for you, mama, but here are a few photos I've found that I wanted to share with you today:

Look! You were once only the size of a turkey!!

But it didn't take long for you to grow taller than grandma! You were such a beautiful young woman!

As a mother, friend, and confidant, you have been such a positive force, instilling confidence, courage and strength in me and Dion. You were (and are) always there to listen- be it in the middle of the night or middle of the day- you've always taken the time to truly listen...

However, I still haven't got over my fear of water just yet...but I do live on the coast now...so that's a start, right?

..and I've managed to learn how to properly apply "makeup" (I think)...

...and who would guess I'd ever design clothes?!?! you have given me the courage to discover who I really am and follow my dream of being a designer...

You've taught us values, the power of the Golden Rule, how to use the "stupid-sick-happy-smile" approach to dealing with imperfect situations, and, most importantly, manners!!

We come by it honestly!! really we do! see:

Through thick and thin, you've always been there. You've taught me some of life's most valuable lessons (thanks also to Helen Reddy) and you've held my hand and guided me when I couldn't have done it alone. You are woman! 

Thanks, mama. I hope your 60's bring you joy and love and wine! I wish I could be with you to tell you that in person. I love you to the mountains and back. Happy birthday, mama. XOXO

Well, I've gone and done it. I've finally started a Twitter account for my clothing line. I have joined the vast and infinite world of social media marketing. Yikes! I credit my strength to my wonderful friend, Cassie. She gave me the courage to do this and has been very inspirational to me time and time again! Thanks, Cassie! Fashion! In Calgary!

Last night I had the privilege of attending the Alberta Fashion Week Opening Night Gala with two of my wonderful friends, Mackenzie and Jenn. Mackenzie scored us (along with her gorgeous friend, Ashley) front row seats for the Fashion Show, held at the Nat Christie Centre in Calgary. It was a great evening filled with mingling with the fashion "who's who" of Calgary and, of course, drinking lots of wine!
The lineup showcased Spring/Summer collections from two Calgarian retailers, Apartment 22 and Mealan, and closed with Spring/Summer from Canadian retailer, Bellissima.
